Introducing 3Minds: How our consultants integrate expertise with lived experience
By Sam Jones, 3Minds Lived Experience Consultant
The team at 3Minds have vastly different backgrounds, but we come together in our methodology. Our expertise is informed by lived experiences. Our research and outcomes emphasise the importance of understanding how individuals in a team ‘feel’. This may sound trite, but there is a clear objective: employees must personalise their relationship with work.
At a time when unemployment rates are low and the job market benefits job-searching professionals, businesses cannot expect the same levels of loyalty. There needs to be new ways to reduce employee turnover and increase productivity. Our answer comes in the form of connecting employee’s lived experiences with their work.
While we offer mainstream and innovative business solutions for our clients, we methodologically implement strategies to connect employee passion to their work. Less clinical, more soul, better results.
During a cold afternoon in July, I met up with Chris, the founder of 3Minds for a coffee and a chinwag in St Kilda. Chris turns up wearing a warm, familiar smile, we shared a hug and she said, “Let’s talk about lived experience”. One thing I love about Chris is her direct approach mixed with the genuine kindness in her voice.
Instantly, we start to share stories about our lives, our traumas, our journeys, our reasons for it all, what has lead to me being a lived experience specialist and Chris setting up 3Minds.
“3Minds is named after my two kids and me” shared Chris with the biggest smile, so content with her idea and so hopeful for their future.
This organisation is all about family right from the very seed of creation but it’s also about cultivating growth creatively.
It’s so easy for organisations and people like Chris to give lived experience workers meaningless tokenistic tasks for third parties to say “oh wow they employ those kind of people”. Another checkbox, right?
Well.. no. Not at 3Minds. This is an organisation that focuses on keeping things real, sharing what works because we’ve lived it, we feel it and we know it.
We don’t just spew out buzz words, we are dedicated to creating positive change.
3Minds focuses on the future. The future of your organisation and ours. Your reasons for working and ours.
3Minds, one vision – our futures.

Kickstart healthy habits through our weekly walks!
Join our team and enjoy a weekly morning walk combined with bodyweight exercises along the Williamstown foreshore with 3Minds Managing Director and Williamstown local, Christine Thornton and 3Minds Wellness Consultant, Rikki-Lee Hodge.
Bring coffees, dogs, or strollers to our walks where you can chat and connect with the local business community.
We meet at the Kiosk on Williamstown Beach once a week every Thursday morning at 6:00am where we cover about 4-5km and perform various body weight movements. A map of the walk can be found here.
We hope to see you there!
